//:: My God! It's so ugly! "2009 F1 Preparations"

Today is the first testing day for all the teams in formula 1 in preparation for the up coming 2009 season. Circuit de Catalunya in Spain, is the venue where teams will be testing their 2009 spec cars. Teams will be testing their interim cars with the new aero package, the KERS system, and the comeback of the sticky slick tires. Now! I know people have been waiting for this day. For them also to see how the new rules will shape the cars looks. Forget the KERS for now, coz we can't really see it. Let's look at how the rules shapes it up ... so first "noticeably" it's the much lower and much wider front wing and the much taller and much narrower rear wing of the car. As you will see here below, the BMW Sauber first outing with their test mule ....
My God! It's soooo ugly! Now I'm not saying this because this is not really my team. But this is to show you a closer idea to what the 2009 cars will look like. Now I know the front wings will be more fluid and we will see lots more changes in the fluidity and the angles of those wings at the start of the season. It will also have some sort of mechanism on it to change the angle of the wing via the steering wheel controls. But oh my! Would you just look at it! The good side about this new aero rules in formula 1 is. It's gonna lose all the winglets, meaning there will be less drag and so it will be much faster in the straights. Because it will lose downforce for loosing the wings, it will be slower in the corners. But! With the comeback of the slick tires drivers can still me aggressive in the corners thanks to added mechanical grip from those sticky sticky slick tires.

The other teams have not yet used their interim car. They are still using the 2008 aero package and probably just testing their KERS system. Which is a lesser obviously development for the eyes of everyone. Some of the teams are also testing to evaluate drivers for the 2009 season.

Honda, Williams, Red Bull, Force Inda, Renault, Mclaren and Ferrari also fielded the circuit to test and evaluate tires, the KERS and their drivers for the coming season. 5 time World-Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb is testing for Red Bull as a price for his success' in WRC. The Italian Valentino Rossi, MotoGP great who they call "The Dr." will also be testing for the Italian team for the 2nd time!

//:: A passer by...

This video was taken a year ago. I was passing by Kanto Bar at MTS and a friend who just gave birth to a boy was on stage. So had a little talk with her like 5 minutes before she went up to do her first set. Then decided to put a conga beside her so I can jam with her for a couple of songs.

Mind you, she did say she was abit nervous to sing that night cause it was her first time to do a set after giving birth. She's abit scared she might run out of air. She was just being defensive really. ;) She's a good singer ... so enjoy Maan Chua with me on the conga

//:: A Bloody Red Thing!

Would you just look at that "Bloody Red Thing!"

Ferrari who won their 16th constructors title in Formula 1 has celebrated with a spider version of the great and ultimate F430 Scuderia. They call it ....

The F430 Scuderia Spider 16M
The "16" denotes Ferrari's total number of F1 constructors championships. Just take a look at that awesome shape!! I can't help thinking that it actually looks better than it's hard top brother!

If it's the looks your after. I think this is a good choice. But if it's performance your after, hmmm... let's take a closer look at the papers. Shall we?...

It's bigger brother, the hardtop F430 Scuderia is all about weight loss - 100kg lighter than the stock version of the Ferrari F430. Now why is the Scud Spider only 10kg lighter than the stock F430? I should point out that a car's roof helps strengthen the car. It makes it stiff and strong. If you take it out. Only the floor remains as the strengthening bone of the front and the rear of the car which as lots of people has said that it makes a car feel like foam that it twists about. So engineers have to put more strengthening beams and stuff to the floor just to make it stiff and safe. These added strengthening parts adds weight. So that means with more weight it gonna be abit slow.

To make you feel abit better. Just think of... that it's 80kg lighter than the stock F430 spider! That will help you abit!

So let's take a look what this car can do...
  • It still has the legendary 510bhp, 4.3-litre V8 engine
  • Will hit 0-100kph in 3.7 seconds - a mere tenth slower than the hard it's hard top big brother and a full .4 quicker than the stock F430 spider
  • Top Speed is 316kph (Ohh did I say the extra weight slows it down?)

//:: The Greatest team ever in Formula 1

They hold the best record in Formula 1. They're arguably the best Formula 1 team ever. The oldest team on the grid who has competed in all seasons starting 1950. Let's take a quick look at the record of Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1.

To date they hold:
  • Most constructor championships: 16
  • Most driver championships: 15
  • Most wins (all-time): 208
  • Most wins (season): 15 (tied with McLaren)
  • Most podiums (all-time): 617
  • Most podiums (season): 29
  • Most pole positions (all-time): 201
  • Most points (all-time): 4,887.27
  • Most points (season): 262
  • Most fastest laps (all-time): 215
  • Highest winning percentage: ~26% (for teams with at least 10 wins)
Ferrari never really started to build cars to make money. Enzo Ferrari himself built a car to join races. In the midst of crisis he had to sell his cars just to fund his racing team. Selling his previous race cars and to build another to race for another year. It was his passion for racing which drove every single women and men in his team to push harder....

Let's take a closer look on the cars and drivers which allowed Scuderia Ferrari to win and claim the 16 Constructors title in the history of Formula 1.
  • Ferrari 156 F1 - Ferrari and it's drivers dominated the season, taking both the Drivers' title and Constructors' title in 1961. The team won 5 out of the 8 races during the 1961 season where Phil Hill took 3, Wolfgang Von Trips with 1 and Giancarlo Baghetti also with 1.
  • Ferrari 158 F1 - John Surtees became the first and only driver ever to take the highest accolade on 2 and on 4 wheels. The 158 F1 is also the car the marked Ferrari's return to the 8-cylinder engines. The 158 F1 also allowed the team to take the constructors title in 1964.
  • Ferrari 312 T - After 11 years, Ferrari was back on top, winning both Drivers' and Constructors' title with Niki Lauda clocking 5 wins while Clay Regazonni took 1 in 1975.
  • Ferrari 312 T2 - Because of a very successful season in 1975. The 1976 season started they way the 1975 season ended where Ferrari dominating it with 6 wins out of the first 9.
  • Ferrari 312 T2 (1977) - An updated version of the Ferrari 312 T2 from 1976 allowed the team to grab the constructors title and Niki Lauda for the drivers title in 1977.
  • Ferrari 312 T4 - Ferrari was back in form and won both championship in 1979. Where the Jody Sheckter taking the drivers title.
  • Ferrari 126 C2 - A terrible destiny prevented Ferrari to take both championship during the 1982 season. One of the most popular Ferrari drivers of all time, Gilles Villenueve, lost his life while practicing for the Belgian GP at Zolder. Less, than 3 months later, Didier Pironi was seriously injured during the warm-up for the German Grand Prix. The 126 C2 proved to be a particularly competitive car, a fact that ensured Ferrari the constructors title in 1982 thanks to Patrick Tambay and Mario Andretti.
  • Ferrari 126 C3 - From 1983
  • Ferrari F399 - The year 1999 was the start of the great combination of Michael Schumacher and Ferrari. The team took the Constructors' titles up to the 2004 season.
  • F1-2000 - The start of Michael Schumacher's greatness with Ferrari.
  • Ferrari F2001
  • Ferrari F2002 - Won 16 Grand Prix from a total of 20 races from 2002 and 2003
  • Ferrari F2003-GA
  • Ferrari F2004 - The most successful F1 car Maranello has produced which won 15 out of the 18 races in 2003. The car that allowed Michael Schumacher to win his 7th Drivers' title. A record which is said to be unbeatable. Which named Michael Schumacher The Greatest Formula 1 driver of all.
  • Ferrari F2007 - A year full of controversy where title rival Mclaren was removed and disqualified from the championship after the court has proved that a Mclaren engineer has a stolen copy of the technical data of the present car of Ferrari (F2007) and a detailed layout design of the F2008 (which was to compete in the 2008 season). The car that allowed Kimi Raikonen to grab his first ever Drivers' title.
  • Ferrari F2008 - The 54th single-seater of Ferrari. Code named 659, Ferrari's interpretation of the new regulations in force in the 2008 season.

//:: Heart felt defeat, but praised Felipe

The 2008 Formula1 Brazilian Grand Prix was the best and dramatic race I've ever witnessed on TV. Ferrari's Felipe Massa on the first slot of the grid. Followed by Jarno Trulli, Kimi Raikonen on third and then title leader Lewis Hamilton (Who eventually became the 2008 world champion).

Lewis Hamilton only had to finish the top 5 position to win the title but Felipe on the other hand had a much bigger job to do in which he had to finish and cross the line 1st for the Brazilian Grand Prix. Felipe being the local boy and hero for the Brazilian Fans was cheered on for the rest of the afternoon. It was amazing how noisy it was. Unlike in other places and circuits where you can actually here the blowhorns of the fans to cheer when the cars pass right by them. But in Brazil it was a different story. It's like watching the world cup (soccer) where you can hear everyone singing "Ole ... ole ole ole" (Does anyone know the title?) and sometimes screaming for Brazil! You can also hear them play the batucada drum beats which is amazing! That's how noisy and great it was out their at Interlagos! Really shows how passionate Brazilian fans are when it comes to sports.

Back to the Race, since Thursday (October 20, 2008) that week. Teams already knew that on the race day Sunday (November 2, 2008) it was gonna rain. When exactly and how heavy the rain will be is the biggest question for most of the team. The race was delayed for 10 minutes because of the heavy rain. And after a minute, the sun came out! That's how crazy it was out there! Lewis only had to finish 5th to clinch the title. At the start of the race everyone gambled on putting the grooved slicks for most of the race. It was in the dying moments of the race where it got alot scary where it started to rain again. Felipe, Fernando (running 2nd) and Kimi (3rd) drove straight through the pits to change tires. Lewis, who was in constant threat from Sebastian Vettel who was really on his gearbox. While Lewis was pitting, Timo Glock who took 4th place away from Lewis as he drove pass the the start/finish straight. As Lewis and Sebastian went back on the track after the pits. It was Sebastian who had the upper hand and showed everyone how good he is in the rain as what he did in Monza during the Italian Grand Prix where he won it on a wet race. At the final lap particularly the final sector of the lap. Sebastian overtook Lewis when he ran wide to snatch 5th and push lewis back to 6th. That moment everyone was on their heels thinking Lewis is gonna loose it and Felipe will become world champion. That happened in the final few corners of the lap. When Felipe crossed the line to finish 1st, everyone thought that Felipe has done it and is now the world champion. The Massa family was already screaming and shouting for joy inside the Ferrari garage. Only to find out that there was going to be another bullet that's ready to hit their hearts. It was Timo Glock of the Toyota F1 team whom passed Lewis and Sebastian while pitting. Timo Glock passed them because he did not pit and did not change to wet tires. He was using the grooved slick tires to finish the race where it was already raining hard! At the last 3 corners of the circuit Timo Glock was struggling to find grip on the wet track on his Toyota to clime the uphill part of the circuit approaching the last corner. It was at that part where Sebastian and Lewis took back the 4th and 5th position because they had better traction mainly because of their wet tires. When Lewis crossed the line he was deemed 5th and was 1 point ahead of Massa and was deemed the 2008 World Champion. It was then when Felipe was told about it and really felt the pain inside him. On the radio you can hear him cry and say "Thank you guys and so proud of this team" He "thanked" his team for doing a perfect job that weekend. But luck wasn't really on their side as Lewis managed to grab the title.

You could really feel what Felipe felt as he drove pass all the fans cheering for him. It was so warm and was so great for him to have been cheered by his country and for him to win the race. As soon as he reached the "Parc Ferme" he was crying inside his helmet and even took time to reflect to himself before climbing out of his car. Felipe took a very painful hit in his heart knowing that he could have won the title when he crossed the line only to find out seconds after that Lewis still managed to finished 5th and win the title. Felipe vowed to his countrymen, hugged his race engineer ....

Here's a clip of the final lap of the Brazilian GP where Lewis managed to sweep pass by the Toyota of Timo Glcok (White & Red car)

//:: P1 for Felipe!

Yes! and i wanna say that again! YES!!!!! I was so noisy this evening watching the Brazilian Grand Prix from home. I know it's like 12 midnight already but my my my my ohhhhh my what a very nervous qualifying session it was. Massa Took pole for the Brazilian GP followed by Timo Glock on his Toyota who pushed Kimi Raikkonen of to 3rd after capturing 2nd slot when Barged by Timo in the latter part. Lewis will start at the last of the 2nd row of the grid which is at the 4th position with his teammate Heiki on 5th. Clearly the best part about the race tomorrow is that Lewis has Kimi infront of him and has Fernando Alonso directly behind him. If I may say it again, Fernando Alonso would dearly love to see Ferrari and Felipe to win both the Championship and that he has also said that he will be glad to support Felipe and Ferrari to win it. To be honest with you I think Fernando Alonso really now is revealing how he hated what happened last year.

2008 Formula1 Brazilian Grand Prix Qualifying result

For the last 3 years, Ferrari and Felipe has been supreme in Interlagos circuit. Felipe has won the last poles in this circuit since 2006 (Where he won the race also), 2007 (The year when Kimi Raikkonen his teammate has won the 2008 drivers title), and now the 2008 season which really shows how quick he is on this track as if he knows it like the back of his hand.

For me, I think Lewis is really feeling the pressure now. Coming on the circuit as a title leader with 7 points ahead of the next title rival. But I know inside his head. He is still thinking about what happened last year. It was the same story he was leading 7 points off Kimi Raikkonen but still lost it. I'm very confident that the red cars from Italy of Felipe & Kimi will pull away just like last year. What's best is, the both of them are using fresh engines. Where Lewis is using an engine on it's 2nd race already. Not only that it's a bit less on power but it's also less reliable. I do hope he would not finish the race and have a terrible race weekend as is the case of last year.

I'm really excited to watch the Race tomorrow and see Lewis get in trouble again and see Ferrari win another Constructors title and for Felipe to win his 1st ever Drivers title. So I will be out infront of the telly again with my laptop at my side to monitor the lap times of the cars. Pics will follow after the Race.

//:: Exiting the paddock for the last time as a driver...

In the 2008 British Grand Prix, in which he considers it already a home grand prix, is where he announced that he is to retire from Formula 1.

David Coulthard at the age of 37 will now retire his flag from motorsport. This weekend for the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix (the last race for the 2008 season) will mark his 246th and last Grand Prix start, as the Scottish veteran calls time on his 15 years of staggering competitiveness in Formula One.

Here are some facts and figures for you about David Coulthard prior to the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix
  • Taken part in 245 Grand Prix (in 15 seasons/years)
  • Had 13 wins, 62 podiums, 18 fastest laps, 12 pole positions
  • Best championship finish is 2nd in 2001 with Mclaren
  • Scored a total of 553 points
  • Driven for 3 teams (Williams, Mclaren & Red Bull)
  • Started from the front row 37 times
  • Done 55,400 interviews
  • Worn 160 race suits, 140 helmets, 85 pairs of gloves, 1 space suit
  • Middle name is Marshall
  • Done 31,332 hours of fitness training
  • The only man to wear a Superman costume on an F1 podium
  • Taken 1927 flights
  • Had 7 team mates
  • Got his own museum that sells DC 'baby-grows'
  • Eaten 432 chickens for lunch
  • Done 22 fashion shows
  • Dressed up as a New York policeman once
What I like about what he has told everyone when asked about retiring is ... When he said that his journey in life has now reached a natural conclusion that upto to this very moment in his life he is still very competitive and he is very happy of racing. He will now end it while he is still on a high rather than end it when he is already unable to do it and would end up retiring and live the rest of his life thinking "I could have done better!" Which for me is also the case when I said I think I have to put a stop on my music career. In the same way as David is now entering a different world when he finally decided to become a father and a fulltime husband.

During the FIA press conference in Brazil in preparation for the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix. Coulthard, when asked about his thoughts about the weekend said. It is going to be a very very emotional weekend for him. As after he crosses that finish line when the chequered flag is waved, when he steps out of the car, when he walks out of the paddock is his last time to do it as a Formula 1 driver.

In honor of his last race he has asked the permission of everyone (FIA, F1 teams, drivers, etc.) That he will be using a special livery on his RB4 (Red Bull 2008 F1 car) for the last race of his career. He will be using the "Wings of life" foundation colours.

DC at the middle along with current F1 drivers behind the Red Bull Rb4 with the Wings of life livery.

This blog really is about me giving a salute David Coulthard for his achievements in life and how he faced a decision in life and how he has handled it to be happy when he made the decision.

//:: Tone jams with Kardams Band

A night of music with Kardams Band. I always enjoy playing with these guys. It's not about just the music or being up their up on the stage with them. But it's the whole experience when you get to talk to them and be with them. When at the back stage, eating or resting we always talk about almost anything and I promise you won't get bored cause almost all are very interesting. Also I awe a lot from there guys. I learned so much from them, specially Manong Toni Alba "drummer" who always pushes me to play a solo that I always end up ruining their set, ahmm to manong Ernie Alba who teaches me alot of types of beats I can play along with different types of rhythms, to Paolo Sisi "Bassist" who has always been there! Ever since I met this guy it was always a learning curve for me "Oh yeah his one of the best bassist in town"

So anyway, here's Kardam band (the instrument section) playing an instrumental piece called St. Thomas.

You can catch them live at Taboan and Kanto bar at Matina Town Square every month and in some places in davao like Jack's Ridge, etc. Without me ofcourse :) hahaha I"m just a silly little guy who ruins their set everytime I jam with them :) ... Have fun!

Kardams plays a variety of songs and genre' such as Jazz, Standars, Samba, Reggae, Pop, etc. and if you wanna hire them you can contact them thru +6309177563532.

//:: Island Plunge!

Great weather, great food, drink all you can! That's what it was like during the "Island Plunge" Octoberfest Pool party of Marco Polo Davao. Saw quite a friends around though it was not that full but still it was a fun night with a very nice setting by the pool, fun and games with prizes sponsored by Havaianas. Was just a great night for a pool party.

Some of my friends would have hoped for a cheaper ticket. Some of them didn't really bother cause they knew it only happens once a year and that's during October when beer is really flowing like a fountain. Some "danced" at the ledge/stage floating by the pool and some went up to the instruments to jam with the El Quinto drumbeaters.

People came wearing their best beach wear, some where even wearing just their bikini's and upon arriving jumped straight into the pool. I could have done that! Jump straight into the pool...
not wear a bikini! ;) hehehe Oh yeah ofcourse the whole night was filled with flashing digitial cameras!!! Thanks to a good friend of ours "WACKY!!!!" who took some nice shots of us. But anyway.

Congrats also to Marco Polo Davao for celebrating their 10th year anniversary as the only 4 star hotel in Davao.

//:: How to scare your wife...

Former Formula 1 driver Riccardo Patrese` takes his wife for a hot lap on a Honda civic around the Jerez Circuit.

It's so funny to see how scared his wife was not knowing that she was being "filmed" the whole time. It's really amazing to watch great drivers drive.  Riccardo was so calm behind the wheel balancing it nicely over the kerbs where the car was going like hell going around the corners.  It's just amazing how they carry those speeds around those tricky corners. It's a Honda Civic for cry out loud!

//:: Formula1 says YAS!

We all know about Monaco, Silverstone, Monza, S.p.a and other racing venues of formula1. These are historic places which played a big role in the history of Formula1 (F1) racing.  This year (2008) alone, there are 2 brand new circuits that was added up on the calendar.  The street circuit  in Singapore which was a night race and another street circuit in Valencia, Spain.  it's great to see new tracks as it is as exciting as for the teams and drivers.  Where no team has no data to each new circuit which leads them to clearly the real world of guessing what to do and to expect.  Next year in 2009 we will be able to see another brand new circuit in a place where people think was impossible to build anything. A place filled with sand.  Abu Dhabi!

The YAS Marina Cuircuit in Abu Dhabi!

//:: F1 News: Ferrari hits back! ... Mixed emotions for Ferrari

I'd say it was a good and bad day for Scuderia Ferrari. Good because they took the lead back on the constructors championship and bad cause Kimi only finished 3rd and Massa at 7th.

October the 12th at the Fuji Speedway in Japan. The 2009 Formula1 Japanese Grand Prix.

As it has been the issue of Scuderia Ferrari, both their drivers Kimi Raikonen and Felipe Massa both strugelled for pace during the qualifying session yesterday October 11, 2008. Kimi was the best of the 2 red cars which placed his Ferrari 2nd on the grid. Felipe on the other hand made a costly mistake and got the 5th spot on the grid. The 2 admitted they struggled for grip during the qualifying session....

Come October 12th, Race Day! I was feeling confident that The Ferrari cars would take some places in the coming first few laps of the race. When the red lights went out, Kimi Raikkonen took the lead of the line from Lewis Hamilton. Lewis had a bad start which caused other cars behind him to tag along side him. he tried to get a slip stream behind kimi and almost collecting his team mate as he moved to the right of kimi. On the first corner, Lewis over cooked it and pushed several cars wide. Kimi Raikonen and Felipe Massa where forced to go off-track and on to the run-off area because of the mistake Hamilton did. He cause so much stir that a lot of cars bunched up behind them banged wheels to each other. Further at the back, David Coulthard could not do anymore move to prevent a collision with other cars. He broke his rear suspension and just went of the track
collecting the front wing of William's Kazuki Nakajima. Because of the incident the Red cars was forced to go offline and rejoined at the middle of the pack. At the twisty turn 10, Felipe Massa tried to to attack Lewis but both of them made contact. After all those incidents involving Lewis alot, the stewards handed out drive-thru penalties both for Lewis Hamilton for pushing other cars wide on turn 1 which has caused Kimi the raace and for Felipe Massa for hitting lewis on turn 10 where lewis already has the line.

The race was a really nerve wracking. After 67 laps around the great Fuji Speedway circuit. Kimi Raikkonen finished 3rd behind Robert Kubica and winner Fernando Alonso while Felipe crossed the line 8th. But because Sebastien Bourdais was handed out another 25 second penalty for colliding with Felipe Massa after exiting the pits relegating the Frenchman from 6th to 10th. Felipe earned 7th as the result. So all in all Scuderia Ferrari scored 8 points for the constructors title adding up to a 7 point lead over Mclaren on the constructors title. Because Felipe Massa scorred 2 points this race and Lewis did not. Lewis' lead on the drivers title has been cut to 5. Thanks also to an engine failure for Heiki Kovaleinen Mclaren did not score any point for this round.

Now that Kimi has no chance of defending his title this year. My bet to win the drivers title is the 2nd Ferrari Driver Felipe Massa. If the Ferrari Boys can finish 1 and 2 for the last 2 races, keeping Massa up front. Felipe Massa will be the 2009 World Champion. If it wasn't for the misfurtunesssssss of Kimi Raikkonen this year. Clearly Kimi would be have a great chance of defending his 2008 drivers title.

A big congratulations to the Renault F1 team and the 2 time world champion Fernando Alonso for winning 2 in a row (The singaporean GP and the Japanese GP). Amazing race by the spaniard! He was so consistent. I was so amazed by how he managed to closely put consistent lap times when he was told to push really hard "Sprint like hell fernando" on the radio by his engineer. For 5 consecutive laps before entering the pits. He clocked his Renault on 1.19.191 to 1.19.200's. It was amazing to look at the time for 5 consecutive laps. Great job also by the chassis department and aero department of the renault team. They said they're engine has lost like 20 to 30 horse power which kills them on the straights. But I think it's the corners where they really had the edge. With the pace like that they nearly matched the front runners (Mclaren, Ferrari, BMW). Fernandos' team mate Nelson Piquet, Jr. who finished 4th has really sealed it down for them. It has really shown what kind of development the team has done for this final part of the season. They have now secured the win at the mid field of the grid.
