//:: F1 Insight: 2009 Aero Regulations

In 2009, we will possibly see the come back of the slick tyres to offer more grip. With the addition of KERS makes it more exciting for the drivers to boost the power of the engine when exiting corners and accelerating hard. Is this enough to satisfy the fans? I bet not! Fans came to see racing and not to see a car pass by and a few seconds another one passes by. Fans just doesn't want to see very very fast cars, but they want to see action. They want to see cars fighting for the lead. Dog fighting from start to finish. Quite a few has said the F1 has become boring over the years, because it wasn't like the Formula1 in the 70's and 80's and early 90's where they always see overtaking.

In the beginning of 2007 the FIA (Governing body of Formula1) has formed a small team called OWG or the Overtaking Working Group comprising Ferrari’s Rory Byrne, McLaren’s Paddy Lowe and Renault’s Pat Symonds. This team has found solutions to the problem of overtaking. They also found that the CDG wing of the FIA has flaws. It turned out that it produced the exact opposite of what it was predicted it would be.

One of these solutions they found was to a wider front wing that could reach the out most extremities of the wheel and has a movable flap that can be adjusted by the driver through the controls on the steering wheel twice per lap, a different rear wing which is narrower, a shorter diffuser, and the loss of bodywork appendages such as deflectors, winglets and chimneys.

So with more aero changes made for more overtaking possibilities. I think F1 (Formula1) is going to be more exciting to watch next year. With more street circuits now on the calendar, next year would be a great year in Formula1.
